Current Newsletter
Fall 2009Ladies and Gentlemen:
We welcome you The Commercial Bank of Grayson’s web site.
The Commercial Bank has served the banking needs of Carter and surrounding counties since 1891. Since that time, our focus has remained the same: providing excellent service, paying a competitive deposit rate, and meeting the lending needs of our local creditworthy borrowers. By sticking to this basic, conservative philosophy, we continue to have the resources available to play a significant role in the future growth and prosperity of our area.
We hope our site provides you with up-to-date, relevant information to make your banking experience easier. Likewise, we hope this periodic update will provide you with information on the bank’s newest products, services, and opportunities for you to make the most out of what your bank has to offer.
We welcome your comments and suggestions, not only regarding our web presence, but on all of the bank’s services, products, and delivery methods. Thank you for your continued business.
Sincerely,
Mark D. Strother
Executive Vice President

An upcoming retirement
Since May 1971, Beverley Bayes, has been serving our bank and customers. Many of you may well have purchased your first home with Bev’s help. Those of you who have had the opportunity to work with Beverley know of her expertise, her attention to detail, the depth of her knowledge. Bev has provided our mortgage customers with advice on the best means to make the dream of owning a new home a reality. We will be announcing a Day of Celebration for Beverley in the near future, where her family, friends, and customers can come by the bank and wish her well.
After these several years of service, Beverley will be retiring March 31, 2010. Please join me in congratulating Bev on a job well done and in wishing her a wonderful retirement.

YOUR COMMUNITY PARTNER
Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce
The Commercial Bank is proud to be a long-time member of the Grayson Chamber. We have taken an active leadership role in the Chamber, as evidenced by Larry Collier’s continued service as Treasurer. Larry succeeded Bank Director Fred Buck as Chamber Treasurer, after Fred’s many years of service. The Chamber continues to provide leadership in enhancing the business, economic and social interests of our area.
Project Merry Christmas
One of our area’s most successful charities provides Christmas to over one thousand of Carter County’s neediest folk. Children age twelve and under receive toys, mittens, socks, books, candy and sweatshirts. Project Merry Christmas also provides each family with a complete Christmas dinner. The Commercial Bank and its employees provide substantial donations to the Project, as our employees annually donate to Project Merry Christmas in lieu of exchanging Christmas presents between our fellow workers. Bank Director Phyllis Davis currently serves as President, while bank employees Lucinda Hancock and Mark Strother also serve as Officers (Vice President and Treasurer, respectfully). 2009’s Project Merry Christmas is scheduled for December 19 and volunteers are very much welcome to participate.
Olive Hill Historical Society
After closing, Olive Hill High School remained vacant and deteriorated as years of weather exposure and vandals took its toll. The Historical Society was established to raise money to return the school to a condition where it could again be used positively by the community. The Commercial Bank has been proud to be part of this effort. Through the works of local volunteers, including Commercial Bank employees Ben Thompson, Louise Stapleton, Brenda Reeder and Jonathon Lewis, the school’s gymnasium and several classrooms have again come to life. The annual Christmas show has become Olive Hill’s primary Christmas celebration. Community plays, performances by well known entertainers, and a number of civic and business functions are now regular events for the Olive Hill Historical Society.
